Firstly, TMET would like to thank all our donors, without whom the Trust would not be able to continue the valuable work in supporting our needy but hard working students.

Kenya introduced the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in all senior secondary schools in 2026. Senior secondary school represents the final phase of the country’s education under the CBC framework, for Grades 10, 11 and 12. As of 2026, students now transition directly into Grade 10 to study one of three specialised pathways based on their aptitudes, interests and career goals:

Arts and Sports Science: Includes performing arts, visual arts and sports Social Sciences: Covers humanities, languages and business studies. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM): Focuses on pure sciences, applied sciences and technical subjects.

This year (2026), we awarded secondary school sponsorships to 7 students entering Grade 10. This means TMET is currently sponsoring 17 secondary school students in total. Four of the 7 new 2026 intake are following the STEM pathway; 2 are following Social Sciences and one is following Arts and Sports Science. We look forward to monitoring their progress and their experience of CBC over the next three years.

The end of 2025 saw our students finish their secondary school studies under the old Kenyan education system when they took their final exams at the end of Form 4. We are delighted to announce that there was an excellent set of results. Well done to all students!

TMET has also continued to sponsor University students. Those TMET sponsored students with higher grades at the end of their secondary schooling often apply for further sponsorship from TMET for their University education. Trustees have the difficult task of selecting only a small number of students to sponsor through University, due to the scarcity of TMET funds. Last year, 2025, we were able to select three students who have now started their University journey in various parts of Kenya. University students meet challenges throughout their time at University, as the fees are high (TMET does not cover them all) and they have to pay additionally for accommodation. One recent change for their sponsorship has been that TMET pays for a tablet for them as they join their course. This enables them to fully participate in their chosen subject as many resources are online.

TMET is delighted that we have recruited two new trustees to our ranks. Both are of a younger generation than the current trustees and are already bringing in new ideas, most notably by designing a new TMET website. This means that TMET current and previous trustees have spanned three generations.

We are very excited to announce that the new TMET website will be up and running very soon and includes information about our history; student stories and latest news and updates.

TMET is a very small charity and the finances are fairly stable, but our sponsorships are few and we would like to be able to award more. The situation in Kenya as far as affording school and University fees is dire and many many families just cannot afford to send their children through education. We are hoping that fundraising efforts will be bolstered over the next year and beyond. Having the new website for reference will mean donors fully understand the cause and are motivated to give as much as they are able.

The Annual TMET Get Together Party took place again this year in April and was well attended by current students, ex-students, parents, local TMET officials and guest speakers. The focus of the speakers was explaining the new CBC and the importance of career planning.

At TMET’s AGM in June (2026), our Kenyan Coordinator, Mathias Mwita, presented his report:

- He highlighted that there had been a lot of animosity in senior schools and this had led to incidents of arson. Children affected had been sent home and parents asked to pay for the damage. A task force has been appointed by the President to investigate the incidents and to determine the cause.

- University students’ exams and results have been delayed due to the University lecturers’ strike. Five of our TMET students will be completing their University studies this year and will graduate in August or December.

TMET looks forward to 2027 when we will make a Trustee visit to Kuria. These visits are vital for the understanding of local issues and to meet students, parents and Branch officials face to face. Our finances only allow this every two years, as it is a costly endeavour.

TMET would like to extend a particular thanks to our Kenyan Coordinator Mathias Mwita for all his hard work over the last year and also to all Chairs and Branch officials.
